Bohn Bodyguard System

Yesterday afternoon UPS delivered a packaged from Bohn Armor containing a pair of Adventure Pants, an Airtex Shirt, and a balaclava which they threw in for good measure.  I've been thinking about getting this stuff for awhile and I finally took the jump.  It all appears to be well made, it fit well, and it was comfortable for the short time I wore it.  Haven't riding on it yet but that is definitely the next step.

Most of the armor is already in place except for the thigh guards for the pants that come separate.  The instructions say that most people chose not to wear them so they leave them out and you can put them in if you want.  I don't see the sense of having it and not wearing it so I put them in.  We'll see what the issue is once I actually use them.  They were a bit of a bear to put in until I figured out that it would be easier to turn the pants inside out, insert the armor, and then turn the back out.  That is actually easier said than done but not a huge problem or impossibility.

I seriously thought about wearing the pants under my suit on the commute to work today but I just did not want to deal with changing when I got there.  I may go that route but I just wasn't up to it today.  The commute was fine, no issue with the malfunction I experienced yesterday but then I did not push the bike either.  I have been thinking about that and I thought that maybe the bike fell into a false neutral but I did try to downshift and got no go there either.  I should have fiddled with the gears once I stopped and before I turned of the engine but I didn't so I have no way of knowing.  Let's hope it doesn't happen again.  The odo this afternoon reads 2847.8 (I think) since I did not come home for lunch.

The Feast of St. Patrick

2675.1 miles at 13:00 on 16 May 2015

Yesterday the temps were not as high as expected in the morning, at 09:00 the hovered around the mid 30s, so there was no riding to work in the Bullet at that time.  However, by lunch time they had risen to the mid 50s so that was enough to take the first commute of the year. The odo before the ride read 2675.1 miles so that is the mileage that we accumulated in last year's season of riding since buying the Bullet in early April.  The photo shows the clock at the right time, I guess it payed off not change it last winter.  XD

This morning, on St. Patrick's Day, I rode the Bullet to work in low 60s temps.  I didn't have time to come home for lunch but I came home early from work to take the truck to the shop.  After we returned from that, my wife and I took a short spin on the MG to take advantage of the great weather.  We headed up Goshen to Sugartown and came back via Providence Rd to Goshen.  We stopped at The Institutes for a couple of shots; no pics, it didn't happen.  On the way out on Goshen, I saw a guy on his Austin-Healey roaring in the opposite direction, we exchanged waves, and I bet he was loving being out as much as we were.

The forecast for the next seven days is not good, maybe snow on Friday but I can't imagine it will be much.  by this time next week the temps are forecast to start climbing again to the mid 50s low 60s.  Soon, soon!

Green Tesla

Not this green Tesla

This week the temps have been low in the mornings but rising to the low to mid 60s by the afternoon so I've been commuting on the Bullet every day so far.  Unfortunately, the sun is on its way down by around 17:00 so by the time I leave work the light is on its way out.

Yesterday on the way home there was an accident on the bridge that crosses over Darby Creek on Sawmill Rd blocking my way home.  It was already dark and I couldn't see what had happened, but I could see a car astride the road blocking the bridge completely.  To get home, I had to continue down Church to St Davids up to 252 and back to Goshen.  It wasn't much of a ride because there were quite a few other commuters doing the same thing but it was a couple of extra miles on the Bullet.

This morning on the way in to work, there was a dark green Tesla making a turn onto 30 from Spring Mill Rd.  I know I have seen this particular Tesla before at this same spot but never while on the Bullet so today it goes onto the exotic car tally.

The tally now stands at 8 Ferraris, 3 Teslas, 2 Lambos, 2 Maseratis, 2 Cobras, 2 Unknowns, 1 Bentley, 1 DeLorean, and 1 MGA.

White Tesla

This morning the temps were down to the mid 40s but I commuted into work on the Bullet because the sky was clear and the forecast did not call for rain.  Also, I am obsessed with the idea of beating my mileage from last season so I'm trying to get in as many miles a possible before the weather turns really bad.  Last year, the last ride of the season was on 27 December and I don't think that I will have that long this year.

By mid morning clouds had begun to gather and there was a sprinkling of rain at around 10:00.  At noon I rode home for lunch and saw a white Tesla on Earles Lane headed towards Malin.  It could be the same white Tesla I saw in the same spot back in late September but since I have no way of knowing that I'm adding it to the count.

I rained a little while I was home and the sky stayed overcast so I decided not to take the Bullet back.  At least we added 10 miles to the tally today.

I ordered a K&N performance air filter from NField Gear to replace the OEM filter on the Bullet.

Winter is coming

No riding in the last week beyond the regular commute to work.  It rained on Wednesday afternoon and I caught a little of it on the way home but not enough to bother and it rained all day on Thursday so not even a commute that day.

Saturday was a complete rain out and Sunday was fairly cold.  This morning I did not ride in but I did come back from lunch on the Bullet and used that opportunity to gas up on the World's Most Expensive Shell on the corner of 30 and Spring Mill Rd.

At the stop the Bullet had 2417.1 miles on the odo and the tank took 3.133 gallons (which cost me $12.53 at $3.99 a gallon when most other places are way below that).  That is 179 miles since the last fill up for a mileage of 57.1333 mpg.  Probably the worst mileage since the Bullet rolled of the showroom floor.

Thursday's forecast calls for clear and fairly warm, in the mid 60s.  Will definitely schedule in a ride then.

Gassing up at Boyle's

Had to stop at Boyle's on the way home from work yesterday to gas up.  The odo was reading 2238.7 miles, a little over 210 miles since the last fill-up but the reserve light had not come on.  I don't generally like to push it over the 200 mile limit between fill ups but this time the count got away from me.  I also don't like to gas up the Bullet at Boyle's, although I generally do my regular cars there, because they are only full serve and just put the hose in the tank and walk away to take care of other customers.  Thankfully, they know me there so the kid that runs the pump let me fill-up by myself without his "help".

The tank took 3.419 gallons.  With 210.5 miles since the last fill up, the mileage on this tank was 61.56 mpg.  Again, I figure the low mileage is due to this tank being mostly taken it with the commute to work and not on long runs.

In the evening, my wife and I took a short turn on the MG.  Nothing far, just out to 252 on Newtown Street Rd to Sugartown and back on Church.  It was a nice evening, already dark but the temps were high enough so as not to freeze in the open car.

This morning I rode the Bullet to work although there is a threat of rain but I will be riding it home at lunch and putting it in the garage behind the MG.  It hasn't rain yet but I don't want to risk the afternoon possibilities because the sky is looking a little ugly.

Commute Notes/Evening Ride

Not in the habit of posting on my commute but on Tuesday I had two exotic car sightings so this is an exception.  On the way to work there was a silver Maserati stopped at the oncoming lane of the Spring Mill and 30 intersection and at lunch I saw a yellow Ferrari on a flatbed tow truck at the same intersection, going east on 30.  I debated whether to count that but I decided that it is an exotic and that I saw it while riding the Bullet so it's going in the tally.

The exotic car tally now stands at 6 Ferraris, 2 Lambos, 2 Maseratis, 1 unknown, 1 Cobra, 1 Bentley, 1 DeLorean, 1 Tesla, and 1 MGA.

After work on Tuesday, I took a little ride out my favorite loop but first I rode back to work on my regular commuter route because I thought I had left my camera in the office.  It turns out that I did not even take my work bag in to work so it was time away from the loop for nothing.  I did go back the long way, via Ithan Rd, just for the change.  Once on Sproul I followed that out to Goshen for a hard right over the Darby creek bridge.  I stayed on that all the way up to Duttons Mill for a right at Sugartown.  My intention was to take Providence from Sugartown but again, not being sure if Providence linked before or after Duttons Mill, I overshot that intersection and had to cut through The Institutes to get to Providence.  From the I went back to Goshen for the way home.

Another beautiful day to ride, cool enough for long sleeves under the mesh but not uncomfortable.  There were some high scattered clouds but no threat of rain and because of the hour, I started the right at a little after 19:00, it darkened fairly quickly.  I noticed that the high beam indicator light has gone out so I will have to have that replaced next time I go out to Pottstown.

On leaving for this ride the odo read 2100.5 by the return it was at 2127.8.

The Parcae Strike Again

It was my intention to ride out to Brookhaven directly after work this afternoon.  The Parcae, however, had other ideas.  Despite a previous forecast of clear weather the day broke overcast as grey.  I risked riding in to work for the morning commute but the clouds did not break up by noon.  Rode back home for lunch and left the bike there because I knew that if I continued with my plan, the Tria Fata would cause the skies to break open on my head once I was far away enough to not make a difference.  Now that I decided not to ride from work everything will be fine and it won't rain at all.

The morning commute wasn't bad, a little cold for my mesh jacket even with a sweatshirt under it.  Most of the road work on my route has been done but there is a huge lake of loose gravel at the Overbrook Golf Club entrance on Godfrey Road.  That's a tight turn and loose gravel seems to pool down there.   The work on Earle's Lane and Malin Road continues.
