The gods urinate on my head and call it snow.

Winter is Dying!

It was a balmy 62 degrees today and all that snow was melting like there was no tomorrow.  I got home a little after 17:30, rolled the MG out of the garage and turned her over.  After a couple of false starts she caught on and began to purr.  So taking advantage of the good weather my wife and I went for our first ride of the year.  Not much of a ride and not very long, we just did a big loop around the neighborhood.  We got lots of waves and smiles from everyone we saw on the road and we really enjoyed having the car out.  First ride on the season under our belts and Spring is on her way!

Happy Mardi Gras!

It's Mardi Gras, Rex and Zulu are parading down Canal Street, and I'm still not in New Orleans but in this frozen Hell that is Pennsylvania.  At least it snowed enough last night to get my first snow day for the year.  I had this King Cake delivered from Nonna Randazzo's Italian Bakery in New Orleans to share with my class which was scheduled for today.  Since we got a snow day we will have to have the King Cake on Thursday, already into the Lenten Season but I don't care.  I'm not going to let this taste of New Orleans go to waste over some religious observances.

The temps have been brutal lately, yesterday the thermometer on the car read 0 on the way to work.  Human beings are not meant to live in this kind of environment.  I feel bad for my son who is living in Minneapolis where temps below zero seem to be the norm.  The only hope is that we have eleven days left in February and twenty-one days in March before the equinox.  No guarantee that it will be warm after that but we know that Spring is coming.

The Twelfth Day of Christmas - The Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord

Snow!!!!  Schools did not close and I was supposed to go to work but I could not get the Camry out of the bottom of our hill and actually went off the road trying.  No big deal, I was able to rock it out but I was unable to climb back up the hill to get back home.  I parked in the lower lot and walked up the hill back home to call out from work.

First Snow

Last Wednesday, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, we had our first snow.  The media made a big fuss about a Nor'easter and expectations of a lot of snow but at least along the 95 corridor in Pennsylvania we didn't get very much.  About 99% of it was gone by Friday and what remains is only in the shaded grassy areas.  This is not the earliest I remember snow here, in 2011 I remember a much bigger storm on Halloween.

This snow doesn't mean the end of riding, there will still be a couple of nice days before the heavy winter comes in.
